Commercialization of a New Nanoscale Computing Technology Leveraging Interconnects for Digital Integrated Circuits ($18000)
PI: Mostafizur Rahman
Overview: The commercialization approach is based on a fabless business model to allow the company to focus on core competencies while outsourcing software, verification, packaging, board design and manufacturing tasks through supportive ecosystem. The initial commercialization approach will focus on military drone market that can capitalize on the proposed fault tolerant and efficient computing aspects immediately and will leverage PI’s existing research collaborations. We chose the reliable chips for defense as the initial market mainly because it can allow us to reduce development costs. The military reliable computing market does not require a big support infrastructure, extensive software stacks, and are fairly insensitive to advanced manufacturing processes and chip costs. In terms of hardware development, this will allow us to work with reduced manpower. Since this niche military market is relatively insensitive to cost, it will also allow us to ramp up chip production using multi-project shuttles, while still selling devices for a profit. Our initial aim will be to offer secure and reliable drone chips to ONR. Once a product line is established, we will reach out to other Federal (Airforce, Military) agencies and civilian drone electronics entities.
